Deterministic, stat-grounded reads from the current ValuCast prospect board. These reports explain the evidence; they do not change rank or value.
What the reports say
1 matching report. Stats come from ValuCast-owned MiLB context; peak notes come from the peak projection, not public scouting grades.
The walk rate sells the story until you run the rest of the numbers. Across AA & A, Liranzo has drawn 60 walks in 393 plate appearances, a 15% clip that translates to 11.6% at the MLB level, comfortably above the 8.5% MLB norm, real plate discipline for a 22-year-old catcher. The problem is what surrounds it: a .211 average against a .238 BABIP suggests the contact isn't unlucky so much as scarce, and 107 strikeouts at a 27% rate translates to 28.4% in MLB context, where hitters average 22.0%. The ISO is legitimate across the sample, .230 at the minor-league level translating to .165 in MLB equivalent, so the power is there, but a hitter who can't run a BABIP above .238 needs the walks and the pop to carry everything, and if either softens, what's left is a backup catcher profile at best.
