Deterministic, stat-grounded reads from the current ValuCast prospect board. These reports explain the evidence; they do not change rank or value.
What the reports say
1 matching report. Stats come from ValuCast-owned MiLB context; peak notes come from the peak projection, not public scouting grades.
The translation is the problem. Romero's AAA numbers across 468 plate appearances look passable on the surface, .248/.315/.391 with 12 home runs, but run them through an MLB-equivalent lens and the ISO shrinks to .125 where the MLB average sits at .150, and the walk rate comes out at 7.9% in a league that averages 8.5%. The strikeout rate translates almost exactly to league average, which is fine, but it's the one thing that doesn't hurt him. Everything that makes a 22-year-old third baseman interesting at this stage, power upside, patience, on-base value, is currently sitting below where it needs to be, and the .291 BABIP at AAA says he's not getting lucky to prop any of it up. If the raw power develops into actual game power, he's a second-division regular who gives you average contact and enough walks to function; if it doesn't, what's left is a bench piece with no standout tool.
