Deterministic, stat-grounded reads from the current ValuCast prospect board. These reports explain the evidence; they do not change rank or value.
What the reports say
1 matching report. Stats come from ValuCast-owned MiLB context; peak notes come from the peak projection, not public scouting grades.
The walk rate is the whole argument here. At A-ball last season, Melvin Hernandez issued 1.6 walks per nine over 121.7 innings, and the MLB-equivalent translation comes out to 2.4 BB/9, comfortably below what most big-league starters allow. The strikeout picture is the honest tension: 7.2 K/9 at A translates to 5.9 at the MLB level, and the MLB-average sits at 8.6, so the ceiling is built on command, not swing-and-miss. If he holds that walk rate as competition sharpens, a multi-inning or setup role is plausible; if the strikeouts never develop, you're looking at a depth arm's worth of profile.
