The walk rate is the whole argument here. Baumeister has struck out 84 batters in 72.7 innings at AA, a 10.4 K/9 that translates to 8.6 at the MLB level, right at the MLB average. The problem is the 4.3 BB/9, which translates to 4.2 against an MLB average of 3.2, and the K-BB% translation lands at 12.8% while the average arm posts 13.5%. His 1.2 WHIP and 86th-percentile WHIP mark among AA arms suggest he's managing contact well enough to survive the walks right now, but surviving at AA with a free-pass rate a full tick above average is a different conversation than surviving in a big-league bullpen or rotation. If the command tightens, you have a depth arm who earns his spot; if it doesn't, you have the same guy with a worse run environment.
