The contact is the carrying tool. Across AA & A+, Kilen has put up a 14% strikeout rate, 70 total strikeouts in 492 plate appearances, and the MLB-equivalent translation puts his K% at 18.7 against a league that strikeouts out at 22.0 — a meaningful cushion for a left-handed shortstop. The trouble is everything else translates thin: ISO comes out to .132 where MLB average sits at .150, and 43 walks in 492 PA produces a BB% that falls short of the 8.5 MLB average once leveled up.
