Deterministic, stat-grounded reads from the current ValuCast prospect board. These reports explain the evidence; they do not change rank or value.
What the reports say
1 matching report. Stats come from ValuCast-owned MiLB context; peak notes come from the peak projection, not public scouting grades.
The .449 OBP across AAA & AA is doing a lot of work here, and the BABIP of .401 is doing most of the heavy lifting behind it. Cavanaugh has 35 walks against 55 strikeouts in 227 plate appearances, which translates to an 11.4% walk rate when moved to an MLB context, comfortably above the 8.5% MLB baseline. The MLB-equivalent ISO comes out to .170, just nudging past that same baseline figure of .150, which is fine for a catcher but not the kind of carrying tool that survives a BABIP correction. If the average regresses hard and the power stays modest, you're left with a patient backstop who can work counts at the margin, which is a bench catcher, not a regular.
