Deterministic, stat-grounded reads from the current ValuCast prospect board. These reports explain the evidence; they do not change rank or value.
What the reports say
1 matching report. Stats come from ValuCast-owned MiLB context; peak notes come from the peak projection, not public scouting grades.
The walk rate is the loudest thing in this profile, and it's also the thing that keeps the ceiling conversation short. Across A+ & A in 415 plate appearances, Essenburg has drawn 83 walks against 120 strikeouts, a 20% walk rate that translates to roughly 13.5% at the MLB level, while the power (17 home runs, .239 ISO) melts to a .148 MLB-equivalent, indistinguishable from a typical big leaguer. The discipline is genuine and rare for a 19-year-old; the problem is that a 32.9% translated strikeout rate attached to average-equivalent power is a profile built for depth rather than impact, and if the contact doesn't develop as he climbs, the walks become the whole argument for a roster spot. Either a patient bench bat who earns playing time with his on-base ability, or a fringe name if the strikeouts harden against better stuff.
