The strikeout rate is the whole argument, and it doesn't resolve cleanly. Across A+ & A in 2026, Bryce Rainer has hit 19 home runs with 69 walks in 478 plate appearances, and the walk rate translates to a respectable 10.8% MLB-equivalent — the plate patience is genuine, the power shapes into something. But he has also struck out 171 times, and that 36% rate at this level translates to 38.3% against big-league pitching, well past the point where carrying an everyday shortstop becomes comfortable. The ISO sits at .205 across A+ & A, and the raw production looks loud, but a .396 BABIP is doing real work to prop the average up, and when that normalizes the contact problem gets harder to paper over. If the strikeouts compress as he climbs, there's a second-division regular hiding in the profile; if they don't, what remains is a bench bat with a good eye and fringe power.
