The walk rate is the whole argument here. Across AA & A+, Doughty has issued just 25 walks in 104.4 innings, a 2.2 BB/9 that translates to 2.7 in MLB terms, comfortably under the MLB average of 3.2. That kind of command at 20 is the thing you can't teach, and the 1.3 WHIP says it's showing up in results. The strikeout side is more modest, 114 punchouts across AA & A+ translating to a 7.9 K/9 where the average MLB starter sits at 8.6, so this isn't a swing-and-miss profile riding a hot stretch, which is exactly why the ceiling lands at multi-inning reliever or setup role rather than something grander. If the command holds as he climbs, he's a useful late-inning weapon; if the stuff doesn't gain enough to bump that K rate, the floor is a depth arm who misses bats just often enough to stay on a roster.
