Deterministic, stat-grounded reads from the current ValuCast prospect board. These reports explain the evidence; they do not change rank or value.
What the reports say
1 matching report. Stats come from ValuCast-owned MiLB context; peak notes come from the peak projection, not public scouting grades.
The walk rate is doing a lot of work here, and at 18 years old in A-ball, that's not nothing. Ebel has drawn 84 walks in 419 plate appearances at A, a 20 BB% that translates to 13.3% at the MLB level while the average big leaguer walks at 8.5%, and his .422 OBP at A is built on a real skill, not a bloated BABIP. The tension is that everything else in the translation is thin: his ISO at A is .143, and it drains to .107 when you convert it, well short of the 0.150 MLB average, which means the power profile as it stands isn't carrying its weight for a shortstop with ceiling aspirations. If the bat speed and contact quality develop into average game power, he's a useful everyday type who gets on base; if they don't, what's left is a high-OBP bench piece whose glove at short has to do the convincing.
