The strikeout rate translates almost exactly to MLB average, and the walk rate is the whole problem. At AA this year across 45.7 innings, Hess is running a 10.8 K/9 and 4.7 BB/9, and when you push those numbers through the level adjustment, the K/9 lands at 8.7 while the BB/9 bloats to 4.2, nearly a full run above what MLB starters typically allow. His K-BB% of 15% at AA translates to 12.3% at the MLB level, short of where you need to be to miss bats and avoid damage at the same time. The ceiling here is a multi-inning or setup role, and he gets there if the walk rate compresses enough to let the strikeout stuff play; if it doesn't, he's depth.
