The K-BB% translates to 7.6% against major-league hitters, well short of the MLB average of 13.5%, and that gap is the whole argument here. Kelly has posted a 4.2 ERA across 91.3 innings at AAA, which reads well enough on the surface, but a 4.4 BB/9 translation and a strikeout rate that also sits well below average leave almost no margin for error once the competition sharpens. The ERA can survive at AAA when command wobbles; it usually can't at the next level with 49 walks already in the ledger. If the control tightens, he's organizational depth who can eat innings in a pinch; if it doesn't, he's a phone-call arm who gets exposed fast.
